It is not a shock that we live among competing kingdoms. Every day we are witnesses of the struggle between light and dark, redemption and condemnation. In Colossians, we are told the Father has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of light. In Acts, Jesus tells Saul He is sending him to turn those from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God. When Jesus told us to pray, He said, “Our Father who is heaven, Holy is your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, here on earth, just as it is in heaven.”
We walk among people living in competing kingdoms, with competing kings. The rulers, the rules, and the priorities are all different.
Rules of the Competing Kingdoms
In one kingdom, money rules. It is often referred to as “The Bottom Line.” Financial decisions are made, services are “sunset,” people are “reallocated,” and people are taught to do “more with less.” In our kingdom, love rules. God’s wisdom is sought in decision making, people are valued as image bearers, their gifts are valued and activated, and there is an abundance attitude permeated by faith. Loving God and people are the priority. The spiritual health of a person is the “Bottom Line.” In the Bible, John wrote, “For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. ” 1 John 3:11
As Christians we often try to walk the line between these competing kingdoms. We have to live in this world; we have to pay bills, cover payroll, and make a profit. But we also know God wants us to love others. How do we live physically in this world, but operate in His Kingdom?
“How about me not sending my money this time, how about me going?”
In order to love others, many will give money away. That is helpful and definitely one way to love others, but we must be careful because that is not the same thing as loving others. The Bible says, “If I give all I possess to the poor…but have not love, I gain nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:3
We must see our businesses through God’s eyes. He has blessed our businesses for His Kingdom. God has placed you exactly where you are to impact the souls of this generation.

Partner Spotlight: Re:Center Ministries
Re:Center Ministries is on the front lines of our city when it comes to helping the homeless, each with their unique story. Jesus calls us to love others and they do it extremely well, but they need your help. One thing vitally important to ministering to the homeless is stability. For many of them, life is in chaos. If your business can help bring stability, it would help in huge ways. For example, if your workgroup set up a consistent time to do a Bible study or schedule a time to visit their new facility, Re:Center would show you how to help love their clients. These simple steps would bring hope to people who are in desperate need of it. Financial resources are always helpful, but dollars don’t save souls, Jesus does. And Jesus lives through us.
